After Posting, How to Edit a TikTok Caption

The style and use of TikTok are effortless, and the app makes it as easy as possible to create and share videos. However, the app is complicated by the sheer number of features and options.
How to Change a TikTok Caption Once It’s Been Posted

Can you edit a TikTok caption after you’ve posted it? Can you edit a TokTok video after you’ve uploaded it? Once a video has been uploaded, can you remove it? These are just a rare of the questions that readers have asked, and it’s worth looking at all of them. So read on to see out how to edit a TikTok caption after you’ve posted it.

Editing a TikTok Caption after Posting

TikTok does not provide the option to edit a video’s caption after posting it. However, there is a way around this, so you don’t have to record and post the same thing repeatedly.

It’s relatively easy to fix the issue by re uploading the same video to your page if you notice the caption issue early on in the video’s life.

Here are the steps to update the caption:

  1. First, click the “Me” icon in the bottom right corner of your screen.

  2.  Next, tap the “horizontal ellipsis” (three horizontal dots) on the right of the video you want to watch.
  3.  Finally, select “Save Video.”
  4.  After saving the video, post it again with the new caption. Then, connect the plus sign at the bottom of the screen.
  5. On the right side of the red record button, tap the “Upload” option.
  6. You’ll see a list of the photos and movies you’ve uploaded. Choose the TikTok video you’ve saved, then tap “Next.”
  7.  In the upper right corner, tap “Next” again. You can add text and stickers on this page and change how things look.
  8. In the bottom right section of the screen, tap “Next” a third time.
  9. Change your audience choices and update the caption.
  10.  Choose “Post.”
  11.  You can delete the old video while your newly updated content app shows in your timeline. Wipe the “Me” icon at the bottom of the home page to launch it.
  12.  Choose the video you want to remove, then thump the “horizontal ellipsis” (three horizontal dots) on the right side of the video.
  13. Scroll to the right (if appropriate) and select “Delete” from the row of options shown above the “Cancel” link.
  14.  By tapping “DELETE,” you can confirm your decision.

If you use the steps above, you will lose any comments or likes the video got when it was first shared. However, you shouldn’t lose much engagement if you catch the caption issue early enough.

How to Make Edits to a Draft

As you can see, it takes work to make edits. Download the video, reupload it, make edits, and post it on TikTok. But you can avoid this trouble if you first post your video as a draft.

A draft is a video that has yet to be released and can’t be seen by others. But you can still make changes if you go back. Make edits to a draft as follows:

  1.  Start up TikTok and go to your page. Tap Drafts next. Choose the video that you want to edit and publish.
  2.  In the upper left corner, tap the back arrow.
  3.  Make any required edits to the music, text, etc. Then, at the bottom, tap Next.
  4.  Change your cover picture, captions, and audience. Then, dab Post to publish your video or Drafts to save it and make additional edits later.

Note: Your drafts are saved to your TikTok account, so be careful. If you delete the TikTok app or clear the cache, you will lose all your drafts.

TikTok Post FAQs

This section will answer more of the questions you have about TikTok.

How do you add text to a TikTok video?

You also can add text to your TikTok videos after you’ve recorded them and hit the checkmark in the app. Then, when you click on the text field in the upper right corner, more video options, such as text color and font, appear. When you’re done adding text to your TikTok, you can add any other filters you want and finish it.

Can I add captions to a draft after saving it?

Absolutely! To make your drafts perfect before posting, you can make numerous edits. Just tap on the draft you want to update and add your captions. Then, you can save the video as a draft or publish it for everyone to see.

How do you trim a video on TikTok?

To cut a TikTok video, press the “+” button to start a new recording.

Thump the “Add a sound” option in the upper right corner, then tap the “Red button” to record the sound after you have registered the video. Next, press the “Check” icon in the bottom right corner. The “Trim” icon will appear in the upper right corner.

Press the “Next” button to add effects after you’ve finished editing the length of your video.

Can I change the soundtrack to a TikTok video?

It’s trickier to change the soundtrack. Since the audio is saved with the original video, you won’t be able to copy it without a third-party editing app. Also, changing the soundtrack can throw off the timing of a TikTok video, which is lip-synced. During the making of the video, the soundtrack is added as a layer and saved as a single file.

This brings you back to the editing screen, so it’s worth trying.

Can I control who can comment on my TikTok video?

Yes, you can. You can control who can comment on all of the videos you upload instead of just one at a time, but you can do it. The setting is in the section called “Privacy.”

1. From the main screen of TikTok, tap the vertical ellipsis (the three-dot icon).

2. On the next screen, click Privacy.

3. Change Who Can Send Me Comments’ safety settings.

Put Who Can Send You Comments to “Everyone” to make your account people or “Friends” to make it only available to friends. You know what I mean. In the same section, there are also options for “Who Can Duet With Me,” “Who Can Respond to Me,” and “Who Can Send Me Messages.” You can edit these similarly to control who can call you while using the app.
